Relaxing, yet energizing, coffee is a firmly ingrained part of American culture and a treasured staple in Portland. At Coffee Time we serve our own locally roasted coffee. Our beans come from direct trade relationships with farmers resulting in high coffee bean quality from tree to cup. At Coffee Time, we offer a rotating menu of single-origin coffee for you to brew at home or try as a Kalita Wave pour over in our store.

"As long as there was coffee in the world, how bad could things be?" - Cassandra Claire

Coffee Time has been a part of the NW Portland community for 22 years. We are more than just a coffee shop. We are a community hub where friendships are formed, local artists are highlighted, students come to study, and of course, great coffee is appreciated.

We support locally owned businesses because it's the right thing to do. Buying locally not only strengthens our community economically, but also links neighbors together and creates an atmosphere to support local causes.

"How does one keep from growing old inside? Surely only in community. The only way to make friends with time is to stay friends with people...Taking community seriously not only gives us the companionship we need, it also relieves us of the notion that we are indispensable." - Robert McAfee Brown

We are proud to be a sustainable coffee house in NW Portland. We use our purchasing power to support the local companies, practices and ideals that help our local and global community.

We believe that everyone has a part to play in caring for our planet. If we are going to provide products, it's our responsibility to make sure we do it in a way that is not only good for the customer, but to the environment and the community as a whole.

We'd love to someday be a zero waste business, in the meantime, we want to model reducing waste, reusing and composting as much as possible and recycling rather than throwing away. Together we make a difference.

Coffee Time has some history here in Portland. We have been in the Northwest part of the city for over 22 years. When we opened in 1994, we were designed to be a local hang out where people could kick back and spend as much time as they wanted. Local artists were hired to paint murals to cover the walls of all the rooms to give the shop a comfortable, creative look.

Back in the day, the far back room was created to be a smoking room. There were several choices of cigars for customers to buy. Of course the smoking laws changed all that. The room remains a little darker than the rest of the building and is a little more secluded.

While we don't still have all of the original murals, we do still have a passion for art. Every month for the past 6 years, local artist, Sean Kalley, has highlighted a new artist by displaying multiple piece of art in our main lobby. A neat fact: the artists are all Coffee Time customers! Plan to come out and support the local artists of our community and perhaps take a piece of art home!
